Please note that because spaces are limited, once you have booked your spot we are not able to refund you.
Katie invites you into her studio to learn how to hand build small pottery plates out of clay, emboss with flowers and foliage as well as glaze with colours. Your plates will also get a coat of clear glossy glaze and be fired twice in the kiln. Clay is an incredible medium for impressions, the technique we will be using in this class creates beautiful floral designs onto clay.
During this workshop you will each get 1kg of clay to create however many plates you like, eg one large plate or 3-5 small plates measuring approx 10cm-15cm diameter. These plates will be perfect for jewellery dishes, soap dishs, wall decor or to use for condiments on a platter.
The last part of the workshop is to use colourful ceramic glazes and paint these into the impressions of the flowers.
Please bring your own flowers and leaves with you that you would like to use. Small flowers work best ie daisies, lavender, nasturtiums etc. Large flowers with fat centers like dahlias do not work well. Leaves with veins make the best impressions (ferns work amazingly). Katie will have a small selection of flowers and leaves too.
The dishes you make in this workshop will be ready to collect in 4-6 weeks time.
This workshop is suitable for ages 12+
When? Saturday February 21st, 10am-12.30pm
Where? Katie's pottery studio, located inside the Kaiapoi Mill, 35 Ranfurly Street, Kaiapoi.
What to bring? An apron if you have one and small leaves and flowers from home (or the side of the road).
Please note that because spaces are limited once you have booked there are no refunds, please consider gifting your spot to a friend if you can no longer make it.
This workshop is designed for beginners and is set in a relaxed studio environment. Katie loves to encourage creativity and no two pieces made in her class are the same.
All of Katie's classes are handbuilding classes, which means they are not on the pottery wheel. Techniques used in these classes mean that you are able to make pottery of a higher standard without the need for practicing on a wheel
You will get an email closer to the date with more information.
Sometimes pottery cracks in the kiln, this rarely happens but unfortunately it is a part of making pottery, if this happens we are not able to refund you. The best part of the workshop is the workshop itself and learning a new skill.
